Bio: Ellen DeGeneres began her acting career with a handful of failing television sitcoms, it was not until the 1994 television show, Ellen where she began to enjoy some success. Degeneres made television history on April of 1997 when she announced on the show Ellen that both her (in real life) along with her character were lesbian. This, at the time, gutsy act panned out for Ellen Degeneres in the long run, even though the sitcom Ellen was canceled the next year, 1998, due to poor ratings. She returned to her roots and went back to doing stand up comedy for awhile, and then got another television show contract. That show too was canceled, she did not enjoy much success until her daytime talk show, Ellen: The Ellen Degeneres Show in 2003 that received great ratings and won her several awards. She dated Anne Heche for awhile, but the two split. She married Portia de Rossi on August 16th, 2008 and is still married.
